Yas Island, what sounds like a Bond Villain hideout, is actually one of the most prestigious and revolutionary getaway resorts on the face of the earth. Featuring a world-class Kyle Phillips designed golf course (yaslinks.com), top of the line cuisine, and the crisp blue waters of the Arabian Gulf, this is the kind of environment many people find themselves fantasizing about.

The site boasts the fastest roller coaster on the planet, at a whopping 240 km/h, it has to be experienced to be believed. At Grand Prix speed, in a replica of a Rosso Scuderia Formula 1 race car, Mel Lifshitz soared 52 meters into the sky flying through chicanes inspired from world-famous race track.

Trivia:According to a recent study in the Applied Research in Quality of Life, it’s the vacation planning that makes us happiest, and not the actual vacation itself. The happiness boost not only occurs when clicking away on different travel sites or thumbing through Lonely Planets, and plotting your adventure. These researchers from the Netherlands (aren’t people generally happier there anyway?) found that the act of mapping out that time off increased happiness for up to eight weeks – two whole months – ahead of the trip. That’s certainly a lot longer than most vacations I know about. Source: Matador Network

The Lifshitz family travels a lot. They just recently returned from Le Blanc in Cancun Mexico after enjoying the Pesach program.
The Pesach program features the best the world had to offer. The rooms are also great and spacious and the staff was friendly and accommodating like many of the best hotels in the world. The program was very well run, soup to nuts.
Mel Lifshitz and family were treated to exceptional meals.Their breakfasts covered all the basics including eggs, salads and cheeses and many things you would expect to eat Pesach, like cereal, pancakes, French toast and crepes. There was also many types of smoked fish, a variety of mini quiches, potatoes. It was almost over the top and quite delicious. The lunches were excellent featuring an indoor buffet and by the pool there was everything from great pizza delivered poolside with french fries and many tropical drinks. The plated dinners were also great the main courses featured steak, duck, prime rib and veal. They also had a bbq each afternoon with hamburgers/hotdogs and chicken cutlets. Not fancy or over done but a nice touch.
The tearoom was superb with a nice mix of chocolates fruits nuts and ices plus really great cakes... The program is quite pricey but essentially people get what they pay for it is a very high quality Pesach program in a lovely hotel on a great beach. Then there is the case of the weather, it is great.
Mel E. Lifshitz highly recommends the Pesach program to anyone looking for a high end passover program in great locale. He is planning to book again for next year’s program.
Mel Liftshitz, a notable philanthropist from New York, is fond of traveling. He often visits Jerusalem but always make sure to stop by in North Israel to visit the Ashkenazi synagogue in Tzfat. The holy synagogue is a special place for him and his family.
Mel shares an interesting story of the synagogue during the War of Independence. It is said that a bomb fell in the courtyard, and a piece of shrapnel flew into the side of the pulpit while the synagogue was packed with people in prayer.Miraculously, no one was hurt during that accident. The event was considered one of many miracles that took place in Tsfat. It is also said, that in the courtyard of this synagogue is a column with a concave surface that in the past had been used by the sick and elderlyfor Lag B’Omer bonfires for they could not join the traditional procession to Mt. Meron.
Mel E. Lifshitz highly recommends people visit this holy synagogue. He and his family view it as a very special place to pray, consequently the Lifshitz family has been there many times.
History of Ashkenazi Synagogue
The Ashkenazi HaAri Synagogue was established by Sephardic Jewish immigrants from Greece in the 16th century. The synagogue was built in the place where the Ari used to pray on Erev Shabbat after walking with his disciples to a nearby field to welcome Shabbat. This tradition of welcoming Shabbat is still practiced during Kabbalat Shabbat services when Jewish communities around the world rise and turn towards the entrance of their synagogue to great Shabbat during the singing of L'cha Dodi.
After the arrival of the Hasidim from Eastern Europe in the 18th century, the synagogue began to serve the Ashkenazi community. Though it is associated by name with the Ashkenazi community, the synagogue currently serves as a popular place of worship for Jews of different affiliations.
The 1837 earthquake destroyed the synagogue. It was rebuilt twenty years later in 1857, which is the Hebrew numerical equivalent to, “How awe-inspiring is this place, the synagogue of HaAri of blessed memory.” This phrase is inscribed on a plaque above the entrance. The southern wall of the synagogue, the wall closest to Jerusalem, contains the Holy Ark, which is carved from olive wood by an artisan from Galicia in the style of Eastern European synagogues. The Ark includes an anthropomorphic image of a lion, alluding to the synagogue’s namesake. The image is followed by the commandment: “Though shalt not make unto thee any graven image.” A wooden latticework fence surrounds a column where the Ari was believed to have appeared before Rabbi Shmuel Heller.
